Information to Patients

Our Practice:

Dr Jehan Phillips has over six years experience in all aspects of general practice. He has an interest in general family health and preventative medicine.

Services available:

Home visits, check-ups, family planning, Pap smears, pregnancy tests, ECG: heart check, counselling, vaccinations: children and travel, minor surgery: stitching cuts, removal of moles and sunspots, liquid nitrogen freezing therapy for sun spots and warts, nutritional advice, industrial medical advice and consultation, sports medicine, skin checks. Please note that our practice nurse has a qualification in Women's Health Screening and can therefore perform Pap smears and breast examinations. If you would prefer a female to perform this for you, please let the receptionist know when you ring to make your appointment on 63311166.

Appointments:

Please ring 63311166 for an appointment. Every effort will be made to accommodate your preferred time. Emergencies will always be given priority and our reception staff will attempt to contact you if there is any unforeseen delay or your GP has been called away. Longer consultation times are available, so please ask your GP if you require some extra time. If you or a family member require an interpreter service, we can organise this for you (see further information below). Please let us know when you make the appointment. If you are unable to keep an appointment, please ring us to cancel or change your appointment. If you do not turn up for your appointment on three occasions, Dr Phillips may choose to decline his care to you.

Care Outside Normal Opening Hours Arrangements:

The practice provides 24-hour care and medical advice for patients, shared with at times, an accredited medical deputising service - GPAssist Tasmania. Please ring the normal surgery number on 63311166 and the answering machine message will list a mobile phone number for the doctor or a number to ring for GPAssist Tasmania.

Home and other visits:

Home visits are available for regular patients of this practice whose condition prevents them from attending the surgery, and is up to the discretion of the doctor.

Telephone Access:

Dr Phillips may be contacted during normal surgery hours. If he is with a patient, a message will be taken and the reception staff will advise you when it is likely that the GP will return your call. Your call will always be put through to the GP in an emergency.

Fees and billing arrangements:

Fees are payable at the time of consultation by cash, cheque, Bankcard, Mastercard or Visa. The AMA Fee structure, forms the basis of our billing policy and is displayed in the reception area and waiting room of the surgery. If you have any difficulty in paying our fees, please discuss it with us.

The standard consultation fee is $53.60 (5-15 minutes). The GPs at this practice bulk bill children under 16 and pensioners over 65. Valid Health Care Card and other Pension cardholders enjoy a discounted consultation fee. Veterans may sign the service voucher. For appointments longer than 15 minutes, the fee will be greater, but the out of pocket expense is comparable. The fee schedule is as follows :

Getting the results of any test or procedure:

Your doctor will advise when they expect the results to arrive at the practice. Call your doctor to find out your results and ask what they mean for your care. If the doctor is occupied with another patient, the receptionist will tell you when he may return your call. The practice nurse can also give you your results if you desire.

Reminder System:

Our practice is committed to preventive care. We may issue you with a reminder notice from time to time offering you preventive health services appropriate to your care. If you do not wish to be part of this system please let your doctor or reception know.

Translating and Interpreting Service:

Patients who do not speak English or who are more proficient in another language, have the ability to choose a professional translating service. Our practice encourages patients to utilise the free Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS). The TIS is a free service available 24hrs a day via telephone at the time of consultation or onsite at the practice if 48hrs notice is given. Please ask Dr Phillips or reception for more information.

Management of your Personal Health Information:

Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorised members of staff. We abide by the ten National Privacy Principles available at http://www.privacy.gov.au/health/index.html, and at reception.

This practice has a no smoking policy.

To all patients

In accordance with the guidelines of the Standard for Uniform Scheduling of Drugs and Poisons (SUSDP), the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and First Point Healthcare policies, this practice will not prescribe drugs of addiction which include:

Pethadine
Tramadol eg, Tramal, Tramahexal, Zydol, Tramedo

and also Benzodiazepines and related drugs including:
